P4: Developmental Psychology, LMU

The aim of the development research project at LMU Munich is the examination of the early development of metacognition and children’s understanding of and reliance on epistemic norms. We investigate the developmental precursors and early origins of this ability. Additionally, we are especially interested in the relationship between early forms of implicit metacognitive knowledge and later developing explicit metacognitive awareness.

We study these questions by assessing children’s behavior in learning tasks as well as their verbal reasoning about metacognition and epistemic norms. Furthermore, we employ eye-tracking techniques and EEG measures to examine implicit forms of metacognitive awareness and their subserving neurocognitive mechanisms.
